Converting those T$ slow and steady

I didnt think I would be playing today, but once we got home Adrienne & Devon laid down for naps. I was enlisted to reapir my stepdads laptop, so while doing the installation of Windows I signed up for a $22 STT.

I made it down to 3 handed with one of the big stacks, and then the following hand went down.

tough one for me because I let the short stack take second, and knew I could out play mindwise... O well $22T$ invested $36 cash recouped....

played another one after this one. Windows takes forever to install!!!

I took first in the second STT. $22T$ invested $90 cash added to account. So I exchanged $44 T$ for $126 cash today and $37 T$ yesterday for $90 cash. Thats a little better exchange rate than cashmanbrian, or thepokerdb :-p

I still have $449 T$ to turn over, I am playing the $215 next sunday so that only leaves $234 I might try my hand at a couple satelites during the week to the $215. It couldnt hurt, unless I bubble... I guess I will see what my schedule permits.

Anyway I still havent done a bankroll tally, but I am definelty ahead of the goal I set at the beginning of the month. I am go to evaluate what I would like to get accomplished during February and post it soon. The BPT still hasnt started or had any announcements, but I am anxious to give that a shot.

recap on latest sat attempt

well i didnt cash in the second attempt at the 700k sat. I busted out 54th when 18 paid. I was short stacked and trying to steal blinds. sb min raises me and I call with K8o, raises me allina K, I check sb who is a big stack raises me allin, and i call. I was actually hoping he would bet at me, figureing he had a high pp. well he had a high pocket pair indeed AA, gg scary.

Its kind of dissapointing busting out after devoting 4 hours, and being so close to the prize. I am not down about it though. I made some progress in my bankroll today. I was going to go play in the home game but my friend backed out b/c he has a sinus infection, and wasnt sure he wanted to commit $100 to playing poker just yet. $100 being 2 games. I had a $450 profit on the first sat, which is more than I stood to win at the home game, and i sat around in my pajamas all day. I also netted a profit of $78 in the $22 stt. I lost $15 in the second sat attempt, and lost several stt I played on FTP earlier.

On FTP I played in the 4.5k guarantee and went out clsoe to the $ when my FH was beat by a bigger fullhouse. I didnt make the $ in either of the $11 STT's I played, or the $22. I know that I wasnt going to play anymore $11's, but honestly my bankroll on FTP is getting kinda small, so I thought a couple STT wins would help that out, $11 or $22's.

So anyway including my T$'s my bankroll is ~$750 or so spread across the sites. The next couple times I play I will be playing on stars, trying to convert those T$ into cash.

I wont be playing too much this week. My wife is getting testy with me playing. I think part of it is because she is pregenant, and kind of emotional. Tommorrow we are taking my son to the childrens museum, and I wont be playing any. Friday night next week we have some friends( well some of them are friends), coming over to play a friendly game of poker (no buyin). What kind of fun is that???

On top of that one of these friends I hear thinks he nows how to play poker, but from what another mutual friend tells me. When my second friend was at the first friends house on new years eve they were playing poker. So friend A is trying to explan the rules, and he tells people the can play a straight JQKA2. WTF???? If he tries that shit at my house I am going to cut him up.....

Anyway its late, I'm going to bed.

good luck at the tables! I'll see you in next weeks 700k at stars!

Gave my buddy a poker lesson, and other developments

Last night a friend of mine came over for a little poker lesson. I played a $22 STT on Fulltilt and gave a commentary to him as I played. Unfortunetly I showed him how to bubble and take a loss.

I asked if he wanted to give it a shot, but he felt more comfotable watching me play another one. During the second game I managed to come back from being short stacked and taking second place. So at this point I was +10 and had played for ~2 hours. I asked my friend if he was ready to play one, He felt a little better about playing so I backed him in a $11 STT. He did well and micked his teacher by busting the bubble. I asked if he wanted to try one more and enrolled him in a $6 satellite. I advised him to make a move on a weak opponent, who ended up calling and catching a backdoor draw. I told him that he was welcome to give it another shot, but he didnt want to deplete my bankroll. I registered him in a play money sitngo and he ended up taking second. I think he picked up alot, he didnt ask many questions playing the play $ tourney and made the right moves more often than not.

My bankroll suffered a little negative equity, but it felt good to be able to teach someone a little about the game. It also helped me to analyze how I play a little bit.

So today, I was reading on pokerfox how Maxpot cashed in a $700k satellite for a $530 entry. I hadnt realized they were running the $750 this weekend and thought I would give it a shot.

I registered in a $5r early in the afternoon. I got kinda carried away with my rebuys though. I had the most rebuys ever for me in a rebuy event. I had 15 rebuys and 1 addon. I had been reading alittle on 2+2 and other various sites about MTT strategy.

One of the strateies I encountered which made sense to me was regarding rebuys. Basically, by making -cEV moves in a rebuy game if my hand busts and I rebuy I am bringin in more chips into play on my table. It also helps to get my opponents to open up and gamble a little bit during the rebuy period.

The strategy worked before long there were over 150k in chips on my table. Obviously I put a significant potion of them on there by this time I think I had about 9 rebuys. Then the worst thing posisble happened, one guy didnt rebuy and they broke our table.

I was moved to a table that had ~20k in chips in play. A really dissapointing siutation for me, because I was 100% sure that I could outplay the person who had the majority of the chips on my previous table. I had position on him, and he was generally a poor player. I decided to keep an eye on him thorugh the rest of the tournament. When our tbale broke he was in second place with 32k in T$. At the end of the rebuy period he still had the same 30k....

I ended the rebuy period at 7k which was just about average if I remeber right. The biggeststack at my table was 16k, and to my left, but he wasnt a strong player. I ended up doubling thru him and bringing my chip count to 15k before I was moved.

The guy form my first table ended up busting out at 103/640. he never did anyhting with those chips and got trapped in a hand with JJ, with A on a flop vs AK.

I ended up moving my way through the ranks. When we were about 60 players left I made some bad plays and was at 59/60. I dont knwo who I managed to go on a rush and before I knew it I was the chip leader on my table. I eventually moved up to 2nd in total chips with about 30-40 people left.

I pushed around some short stacks and everntually found myself in the first place position. After that I more or less coasted until we were all in the $. Not a bad payday, I took down $530 T$ after unregistereing from the 750k.

I am going to play the stars $700k next weekend with the proceeds of this satellite. I am going to try and convert the rest into cash via $22 STT's and maybe a few 180's.

I have started that quest on a good foot. I landed first place in my frst $22 and converteed $T22 into $90.

There was another $5's sat starting after I finished my STT, so I am playing in that righ t now. We jsut ended the rebuy period and I have 16k in chips and am in 20th place. I have to go so that I can focus now that the rebuy is over, but at least for this one I only had 1 rebuy and 1 addon, fo a total of $15 invested.

I'll update once its over....

So I should change the name of my blog...

To Bankroll Tribulations of a Focus Challenged Donk

I know I wasnt focusing last night, I started reading a thread in the Poker Legislation and found some unnerving information. I wont go into it here because I dont want to incrimnate myself, but I plan on discussing it with some friends in the legal sector.

So when I last posted I was playing a $6 satellite for a $26 token, and a $33 STT. I played a couple more games here are the results and summaries.

$6 sat.

I took the chip lead early nad coasted in to the prize. Overall an easy game. I might play a couple more of these to get my way into MTT's. There are $26 sat to $75 tokens, which if you do the math pay out >33%, not bad. I might use a token to try m way through 1 of those if I get some more $26 tokens.

net +$19.40 (Tournament Token)

$11 STT

Jeeezus, this game was the epitimy of terrible. Idiots playing any, chasing flushes and straight draws at any cost. Calling off all their chips with middle pair. I admit I wasnt ready for this, and wasnt playing accordingly. I was used to playing $33 & $55 where the majrity of players would respect early position raises, and wouldnt draw to hands without the proper odds...

I finished with 2 pair vs an idiot who played K8o and hit a river gutshot straight.

$33 STT

Really my fault the way this went down. I hadnt been watching the play, I had started researching the subject I ran across on 2+2.

More of the same, not paying attention. First hand I played (11 hands in) I was in MP with AKs. Looking at opponents stats he had played alot of hands I raised he smooth called. flopped a K 6 4 rainbow. I bet out pot, he called. Turn 2, I pushed (which was equal to pot. He shows KK, gg $33.

$55 STT

Here's where my ADD sets in. I start the evening saying that I am going to play $11 STT, and befor you know it I'm in a $55 trying to recoup some losses. I am entirely comfortable playin the $55's just not adequately bankrolled right now.

Long game, tough opponents. we are 4 handed for a long time. 1 big stack, 1 medium stack and I am on a short stack with a player with a slightly lower stack than me.

The short stack doubles up, and I finally think I should maeke a move. Table had been playing tight respecting the other short stack and my moves.

I push and get called by medium stack.

At this point I shouldnt even be playing. I am obviously way off my game, but feel that I have to take down something to show for my evening.

I decide to shut out all distractions and focus. so much for that. First hand I get dealt QQ. I open up for a raise.

I guess one thing I should mention is that the first hand of the $55 that I jsut played I get dealt KK in EP, I open for a raise of 3xbb, a player in MP pushes allin. I thought about it and decided if he had AA, AK, AQ I just didnt want to risk my game on a coin flip.

backing up... So I get QQ in EP and a player in LP pushes in on me. It fodl s back around to me, and I think about it and decide to hell with it, I shouldnt be playing anyway the way I have been running. I decided to let the chips fly and call. If I bust out I'm off to bed.

Tommorrow I am playing in a home game, it looks liek we are going to have between 10-15 players with a $50 buyin. We might have 2 games going, but hopefully I will only be playing one, because the second starts when the first is shorthanded.

I have novice pokerplaying friend coming over who is going to come over tonight for a free poker lesson. The poker game I am playing in is about an hour away. I made a deal with my friend. If he drives, I will hedge his wager. The way the game pays out is 1 buyin to 3rd, 2 buyins to seond, winner takes rest. If either of us takes third we split prize (1/2 buyin) if either of us takes first or second the other person gets their buyin back. I also loaned him the audio version of Phil Gordons Little Green Book to give him some information.

The plan tonight is I am going to play a $22 STT with him ghosting me. I am going to explain why and what I am doing, and hopefully show him how to take down a win. I am then going to let him play another $22 STT and ghost him, and answer any questions he might encounter. And of course drink plenty of Guiness....

My bankroll is in terrible shape right now. I am not sure how I am going to proceed. I know that I cant play $11 STT's, so I will be playing $22's for a while. My total bankroll right now is ~$250. Not really enough to play with out the risk of ruin, but I have a shot. I just need to make sure I am on my A game and attentive to the situations. I am going to try my hand at 3 or 4 more $ sats this weekend. Hopefully I can money or even final table in one of the guaranteed tournaments this weekend.

No play last night

I was to tired to play after work last night. I'm in a crunch time period right now, and have a lot of work to get done before next wednesday.

I thought that I would grind out $11 sng's unti l built my bankroll.... To hell with that, I would rather risk ruin than try to make it through that donk field for a $30 profit. I played one just a couple minutes ago and had forgot how bad the play was.

Anyway I am going to stick to playing $33's for now. If I do go bust I will deal with that later, but I am much more confident in my ability to win when playing halfway rational players.

I'll post my results later, I am playing a $6 sat, and a $33 right now. They just started so I need to see how my opponents are playing.

Missed posting the last couple days

And what a rough ride its been. After going 90% ITM on my STT's, I played acouple $55 & $109 MTT's. I didnt finish ITM on any of the 7 i played. A real dissapoint ment, but knowing that here is a lot of variance in MTT's I will just chalk it to the game. As long as I am getting my $ in with the best hand, I can accept that I made the correct play when I get sucked out on.

I am not really a player that goes on tilt, whether its from a bad hand that cripples me, or a hand that knocks me out of a MTT. It's too easy to get caught up in the short term results and not focus on the overall picture. Its always dissapointing to bust out on the bubble, or take a bad beat from a player who shouldnt have been in the pot in the first place. Everytime you are put into a situation like that you should use it as a learning exercise, and evaluae why it happened. Some of he things I have learned from my bad beats are to avoid out of position plays, avoid getting into a confrontation with a bigger stack than mine, and make the donkeys pay for their draws, and controlling pot odds. Theres always something to be learned, so if I am paying a big price for my lesson, I am going to study it to try and prevent it from happeneing again.

So this weekend my bankroll took a significant hit. I can live with it though, its part of the trials and tribulations of playing over my bankroll. I am going to work on growing my bankroll though during the next month. I will primarily be playing STT's at a level that is maintainable by my bankroll. I am going to go by a variation of Fox's recomendations . I am going to split the difference of his protected and unprotected SNG requirements. I am going to only play sng's that I have 33 buyins at, if I drop down to 25 buyins I will step down in level. Once I am at 38 buyins for the next level, I will step up.

I am going to focus on bankroll building until March, I plan on taking the occasional stab at a MTT, but only at the current sng buyin level that I am playing and only hafter I have 3 consequtive first or second place finishes in a sng.

I am going to try and play at least 25 sngs a week, I know its not many, I have seen gank play 30 sng''s simultaneously, but I'm focussing on quality, and improving my play overall not just trying to knock out the #'s. I only play 1 game at a time, and have other personal obligations hat keep me from playing more.

Right now my bankroll is about $380 so I am going to stick to playing $11's for at least the next week or 2. I feel comfotable playing $33's, 55's and even $109's but dont want to risk ruin right now.

I was reading a post by Gigabet and one thing that he said that I can relate to is "....and it took me all of 2 days to get to a point where it was obvious to me that the 109 players were basically the same as the 33 and 55 dollars players, just a little less lost."

How true it is.... anyway moving on....

I played in the poker
foxhat weekly tourney last night. I wasnt really into it to be honest. After the first rotation my wife was asking me to come to bed to play some pokah, not a bad idea I thought. There were only 11 people playing last night and no bounties so the prize pool was pretty small, and is only a $11 buyin.

Hat went out first, said he was preoccupied wit putting his kids too bed, I think someone just told him we were playing holdem 8/b. So 2 hands later I am the bb an dget dealt AKo, highfidelty raises in LP, I decide to push, figure I am just going to go to bed. Next rotation around I am in bb agian and hifi raises LP, I push with QQ, he calls with AQ and I take it down. I think hmmm maybe i will play a little bit. acouple hands later I have some rags and try to make a staeal from LP button raises me, i fold. I told him I had 9's and asked if they were good, he said it would be a race, so I figure he had 2 overs. very next hand I get JJ I raise from LP, he reraises me again. I think I know he has ahand now b/c I dont think he would try a move on me after pushing me off of a hand. I say gg me in chat and push all in, he call and has me covered by 400 chips, he shows AA, and a J flops.....

I decided that maybe it was worth sticking around, and sure enough I took down the tourney after a couple suckouts. here are the last 3 hands.... we went fro m4 handed to me winning... I hink everyone was getting pretty tired, 11 man tourney went an hour ad a half....

ENDGAME THIS MOTHERFUCKER

Ok a little profanity never hurt anyone....

So since I last left you, I was in a MTT on bodog.... goodgame $16.... I didnt make $, so then I signed up for a $5 T$ satellite.... 54 registered, 9 advance, I busted out at 21....

moving on, I go back to FTP, and sign up for a $6 18man sat.... tightest table I have seen at $6, after an hour there were still 15 players, i ended up out at 15....

I then signup for my current sitngo level $30+3 (which while clearing my bonus is saving me $1.26 in juice)... I am owning these sitngoes... I took down another first place! not too bad I win $135-$31.74 for a profit of $103.26....

My bankroll now sits at $509.57, and I have ~$400 in bonuses to clear on various sites... not too bad...

I wont be playing anymore until later tonight, I have to do some chores on my honeydew list

Only 50% for my endgame

Yesterday I played 4 HU sitngoes. I won 2 and lost 2.

This morning I played 2 $30 sitngoes. I dont have a problem making it to the $. Anymore the play at this level reminds me of the play at a $5 sitngo. I was the bigstack in the first one, and ended up giving the lead away and taking second. I can contribute part of that too being card dead agianst a good opponent.

The second sitngo I was the short stack, and ended up taking it down. An interesting hand happened early on between too terrible players, the one on the losing end of the hand decided tthat he needed to stick around and bitch nad moan about how bad the other players game was....

I think they were both idiots and played the hand terrible. here is the hand history

End Game Strategy

So after listening to to sheets' seminar and thinking about furthering my tournament strategy. I have decided to do as the Russian chess players and focus on my End Game strategy.

In the 70's-80's when the Russians and Americans would play in chess tournaments the AMericans could not beat the Russians. The Russians training focused on the End Game strategy, while the Americans worked on a series of complex opening moves. The problem was that if the American Chess players found them self deep in the game with few pieces they wouldnt know how to win.

I have decided to focus on my final table and heads up strategy while building my bankroll. I plan to allocate a small % of my weekly profit to MTT entry. I think that waking dow just 1 or 2 big wins for the year can propel me farther than grinding out short-handed ring games.

I began my quest last night, actually before deciding that this would be my quest. I actually played several different games through out the evening. I began by playing the stars $11r 25k guarantee. I finished out of the $. I also signed up for the bodog $52+5 17.5k guarantee. It had a nice overlay. I finished out of the prize pool. I played several sit-n-goes on fulltilt. I played 4 - $30+3, 1 $50+5, 1 $10+.5 HU, and 1 $6.6 tier 1 satellite.

The $6 sat. was the longest I had ever played, it was 1:45 mins before I busted out on the bubble.

In the $50 STT I lost a large portion of my stack defending my blind against a steal when holding 22, villian caught an A on turn to complete his A5o. Then this hand pretty much cripppled me.

My total results for $30+3's , I finished second 2 times, third 1 time, and fourth 1 time.

Buy-ins = $132
Winnings = $216
================
but when taking into all of my STT's I didnt fair so well.

Buyins - $193.60
Winnings - $216
profit - $22.4

I also lost ~$120 playing the $11r and the $52+5

I plan on grinding out $20+2 STT for a while, a while meaning until I get back to $900. I currently have a bankroll of $290 :-( I will get back to $900 though.

I wont be playing tonight, we have family coming over for dinner. I actually may not be playing tommorrow either, depending on what my wife has planned for me.

Couple results for the evening.

First the biggest accomplishment tonight was taking down the pokerfox weekly tourney. We only had 15 players so it wasnt a huge accomplishment but rewarding nonetheless.

I accumulated some chips early and decided to work on my aggressive approach that I have picked up from sheets and gank. I was constantly pushing my opponents, to a point where they didnt know if I was playing trash or a good hand.

I was in the top 3 and squeezed into the chip leader position after knocking out a midstack once the tables combined. I had position on the seconf chip stack and when he opened the pot for a large raise I came over the top with my AK. I flopped a K and rags, he pushed and showed TT, my K's held and now I wasnt just the chip leader I was the monster stack. I had $14k vs about $1-$4k stacks. An added bonus was that the second chip stack that I knocked out was one of the admins, and I earned a $25 bounty.

I raised every pot I entered, and was usually taking them down uncontested. If someone fired back at me when I had rags, I would dump it. If the flop mised me I would take a stab at it, and usually would take the pot uncontested.

I ended up taking in $75 for first. A nice little boost to my bankroll when including hte bounty.

I also played a 6 handed sit and go prior to the pokerfox tourney. I was very aggressive in this tourney too, I personally took out every single player. I dont think the player whom ended up heads up with me played a single pot prior to being heads up. He was a very solid opponent, and almost made a lead on me. I switched up my game and came back to win it. I won $19.50 for a $5 sng.

Unfortuently I didnt do so well in my 180man. Sometimes the aggressive play works, sometimes it doesnt. It really depends on the skill of your opponents. I think it works better against better players, who are more conservative, and realize that their pair of 7's isnt good with a AK showing on board, or a rivered flush.

I also played a $5 MTT and a $3 MTT, Neither of these proved profitable either. I wa semidistracted when I was playing them and dont recall exactly how I busted out.

Well my bankroll now stands at $408.19. I have several bonuses out that I need to clear and might work on that later this week.

bankroll checkup

Well to keep myself honeest I have done a bankroll "check".

Currently I have $331.89 spread across 4 sites. Wit hthe majority of that being on Pokerstars.

Tonight I am going to play a 180 man MTT on stars, and plan on playing the pokerfox weekly tourney. so taking into account that I will bust in each my bankroll will be at $300. of course I dont plan on busting out, but always have to take it into consideration.

Every time I play I have been adding to my poker mantra. The most recent addition is TPTK is not good enough to call off all my chips! that is what happened last night when I played the $3r on stars. Fortunetly I was only into it for 1 buyin + 1 rebuy + 1 addon. I finsihed 420 when the $ would be at 396. I was surprised to see the prize pool to be ~$25k, but the field was 2k again.

I dont mind playing these big field MTT's. My thinking is that I only hve to beat 8 opponents at a time, and when its down to the last 9 the prize pool more than supplements the task over overcoming such a large field.

Weekend wrapup

Had an interesting weekend. Continuing my shift towards tournaments I registered in a couple large buyin tourneys.

I played the $109 deep stack at pokerstars. I dont really rember alot of this game I had a few too many beers. I finished middle of the field IIRC.

Sunday I played the Bodog $100k, I played this with the bonus $ that was left in my account after I withdrew. I had some more problems withthere software, where I coulndt bet, my cards were autofolded. and I was dealt JJ in LP.

I took a couple screenshots that showed the errors and the refunded a partial buyin. There response was that I was showing a connection delay. They then tried to educate me in the complexity of the internet. They admitted no wrong doing but gave me a small T$ credit ($29).

heres one of the screen shots I sent them.... notice how my cards say folded, but the bet screen is up.... they really need to work out these bugs. Needless to say I didnt do very well in this tourney either.

I played a $3 MTT last night on stars. I owned it. but why???? The play was so terrible. I actually might try to win one of these sometime.

There was a 2k field and I qas ITM before the 2nd hour was up. I quickly took the chipleader position and used it to my advantage. Most of the game I had >100k in chips when most players were <10k. It was getting late and I was tired. I was pushing every other hand unless there was a significant raise in front of me.

I was definetly playing the maniac. With the occasional trap. I probably took out >120 people. Towards the end I did get caught a couple imes with my hand in cookie jar but it didnt stop me.

I ended up finishing in 30th place for a win of ~$15. I know I could have easily mad eit to the final table and probably to at least 4th or 5th but it was past midnight and I had to get up at 5 this morning. I couldnt afford to play for another hour or 2 and still be able to make it to work.

I might tryto take one of thes micro tourneys a little more serious though in the future.maybe a $10 buyin or something. It would be a little more rewardng to make the final table.

I wont be playing any poker tonight, and maybe not any tommorrow. I am rather tired and will just spend some time tonight with the kids and wife.

I am still reevaluating my goals, and will recap the week in my next post. I am still going to try to hit benchmark targets for my bankoll but the paths to get there may shift from limit holdem.

Largest online win ever!!

I decided to try and parlay my cash in the 17.5k and registered for the 40k guarantee on bodog. I couldnt resist the overlay. There were ~258 players with a buyin of $100+9 which left a $14.2k overlay.

I was feeling really confident in my game since the cash the day before. I decided that once we got ITM I was not going to participate in any coin flips, and make moves when I had the oppurtunity.

I think the tourney payed 27 places once ITM the bottom tier was ~$200. It seemed like as soon as we hit the $ the shortstacks were ready to gamble, and pushing all-in with some crap cards. I avoided all that nonsense. I think the second tier started at 18 players paying out ~$400. I woke up a couple times with good cards and before I knew it I was the chip leader. Not much later we were to the final table. I was no longer the chip leader and had the chip leader to my immediate left.

As soon as we were at the final table I was dealt KK on the button. The blinds + antes were ~8k, so I opened pot when it was folded around to me for $18k. The chip leader asked me if I was going to make a habit of that. He and the bb folded. Another player whom I had put abeat on earlier chimed in and said I had been doing it regularly. I thought it was funny b/c I only stole blinds a few times. however I had only show my monster hands 2 times entire tournament when opponent folded. One time was agiant this player when I had AA, I was trying to show him that I wasnt targetting his blinds, and the other time was deep in a hand where I had the nut fullhouse and my opponent laid it down, I think he had a a big hand and made a good lay down. anyway to continue at the FT.

my final hand:
The blinds were high I had ~50k in chips and was dealt TT UTG+1, pot was ~15k with blinds and antes. We were six handed. Big stacks were ~160-190k there was one short stack ~30k, and bb had ~90k. I pushed PF big stack called AQo, caught Q on turn... gg me

I could have held out and waited for someone else to bust and picked up a little more $, but I was playing to win and would make same move again. I was extremly happy with my play overall.

I cashed out for $1800!!!!!!!!!!! hella fucking sweet for me.

It really helped me boost my bankroll. I cashed out $750 to appease my wife. Basically we are using $550 toward a car payment, and I told her to go shopping adn buy herself or whomever what ever she wanted with it. I think this will make her a little more accepting of my poker playing. Whenever I have played home games and won, I always give her my winnings. The payouts in those is never anything enourmaous (usually $100-$300) and she is usually more than willing to allow me to go out.

Anyway so as it stood now my bankroll on bodog was $1900 and some change. I only wanted to withdrawl $1k and leave the rest in there. Bodog sent me an email stating that if I withdrew that the would keep my original deposit bonus of $100. I thought that was kinda crappy. I decided to try and clear the bonus playing soem .5/1 NL. I was doing fairly well, staying even :-p then this supperaggressive donkey got into a pot with me. He raised in late poisition, I was bb and had AKo. I reraised his bet 3x. I think at this point my bet was ~$15. I flopped 2pair, but the were spades. I bet out the pot he called. Turn was a blank. At this point the pot had ~$90 in it so I pushed the rest of my stack ~$130 and the idiot called, he had 5s7s and caught a s on the river..... So I lost $200 playing NL, I also lost ~$300 when I sat down at a 20/40 limit game. I thought man if i can hit one good hand It will be gravy. I didnt have any reads on anyone of course and had a LP calling station suck out on me 2 times in a row. After 2 rotations I left that game. I didnt want to risk it.

I had a friend transfer me $300 on fulltilt while I was waiting for my withdrawal to clear. The guy was only an aquinatance on pokerfox really, but I had talked to him several times over IM, and felt that he would trust me. He did and I greatly appreciated it. So I played some on FT while I was waiting on my $ to show.

On FT I had a bad session at 2/4 6 max limit. I was down ~20bb when I had to go to bed on thursday night. I played some on friday and had more of the same luck. I went back down to .25/.5 and won ~$20 hardly a dent in what I had lost but somewhat of a confidence booster. I also tried my hand at a couple STT & MTT satellites on FT. Nothing ever happened for me on those and I decided to backoff.

My withdrawl cleared and after withdrawling the $750 and my losses it left me with $500. I owed my friend $300, so that left me with $200. I decided to transfer that to stars. I want to try my luck at satelliteing into the $500k soon. I wont be able to play this week b/c the Colts are playing their first playoff game against Pittsburgh, and we are having friends and family over to watch the game.

So yesterday I registered for the $3r sat. to $500k. I ended up paying 7 buyins including addon at end of first hour. After rebuy period I had $6k in chips and kne wthat was plenty to work with. I ended up waiting for good times to make moves and doubled up 3 tiems within an hour. I was in the top 3 for chips counts.

Adrienne was getting mouthy with me while I was playing and kinda started to mess up my game. So much for my theory of appeasing her by paying her off.... I ended up losing a couple consequtive hands an was down to about 28th. We still had 100 people left and only top 26 got seats. I ended up not making it and busted out in 85th. Dissapointing but if I played much longer I might have been beat wit ha broomstick by the wife.

Adreinne wasnt feeling well so I ran to the grocery to get some things for dinner, I made us dinner and afterwards checked to see if stars was running anymore sats. I noticed a $39+3 limit sat to a $215 event. One entry for every 6 players. I wasnt sure that I wanted to try that since limit tourneys tend to be crap shots as the blinds encrease at the end. Once the tourney started they allowed late seating and there were 48 players, I decided since almost he enitre FT got seats I would give it a shot. I didnt play any hands first 2 rotations and decided to just watch the play. It was unreal how terrible these guys were, one guy jamemd the pot for EP with A8o. un-fucking-real... It was obvious these people watched too much tv. There was only one player there who seemed like a solid player.

I caught KK in LP and double my stack. Later I was dealt JJ in LP and the jaming began when the board showed rainbow 10 high. On the turn I caught a J and it was 4 bet around agian with 4 players. the river was a 7. It was checked, bet, raised, and I reraised. The first player called, the second reraised. I thought surely this guy doesnt have 89, the only hand that could beat me. and called. I dont know what first player had, second had J7, and next player had TT. I took down a 6-7k pot and was pretty confident that I would make the prize pool.

I did alot of coasting after that and we were down to ~13 players. I got involved in a pot when I had AKs, and missed it by the turn I let it go. I was down to ~4k in chips, about 8th place. We had 13 players left with 9 getting seats, one getting $9. I was beginnign to get concerned I wasnt going to make any risky plays and just waited and hoped for a good hand. Blind were high ~800 and antes were 75. Before I knew it i was on bubble.

I saw the third place person go down like a comet. I couldnt believe he ws getting involved in hands with his marginal holding. Before long we were at the bubble. I was in 9th place but not by much. The CL had been stealing all my blinds and I decided to make a stand with AQ and reraised him. He called. to me this meant that he did not have apremium hand. the flop came A rag rag rainbow. He bet into me , I called. turn was a blank. He bet into me, I called. River was a Queen, he bet into me I called. he showed 58s. I won pot and almost immediately the other short stack had busted and I made it into sat.

I unregistered and took the T$. I plan on using them to play the $500k soon. I might try to sat in again and give myself a few more tourney credits. I have had luck satilliting in before but never had the confidence in my game to play. I dont thin kthat is goig to be a problem this time and am looking foward to giving it 100%.

I am going to reevalute my goals, and how I want to reach my 25k target by the end of the year. MTT's can definetly be more profitable than grinding out low limit games. But I am not sure what is the best thing for me to do. I will definetly continue to play limit games, but maybe focus on playing some big tourneys too. I want to take a casino trip and I will definetly be playing limit at a casino unless I hit some kind of crazy monster tourney win.

We'll see but until then this is where me bankroll stands: cash - $169, T$-$215, I am also still waiting on some rakeback. So even though I took a monster (for me) MTT win I am only slightly ahead of where I was last week. I am not going to consider the $750 a part of my goal to withdrawl $4k either, b/c that is intended on being used for a family vacation.

Bankroll = $384

Nice Finish in MTT

Yesterday I transferred $100 over to bodog to take advantage of a 100% instant deposit bonus. The only restrictions are that I need to earn 300 bodog points, prior to a withdrawal. You earn a point for every $1 raked and 3 points per $5 tournament fee.

Even though the cash games are soft on bodog I am not fond of playing without PAHUD. I've grow attached to having stats available. I probably wont play many cash games, maybe a few to help me get past the withdrawal requirements.

One of the biggest draws at bodog for me is that not many top internet players play there. It is mostly sports bettors who like to try their luck a poker after they hit a win. Another added bonus is that almost every "guaranteed" tournament has an overlay.

Last night I decided to try my skills at some NL cash games. I sat at the $0.1/$0.25. I didn't fair well and got stuck for my buyin. I decided that I should hold off on the the NL games on bodog.

I sat at a $.5/$1 limit game. I played ~50 hands and ended up finishing ~+10bb. I registered for a $11+1 guaranteed. and finished out of the $.

At this point I was happy with my MTT play. I decided to register for the $17.5k guarantee. The buyin was ~$57 and if I didn't make the $ I would still have my original $100 deposit.

I played very well. I had been listening to a seminar put on by "sheets" the previous day, and it helped me to put together a solid strategy. I was getting short stacked but still had a "M" of ~9. In fact I had an average stack and that meant that a lot of people were getting short stacked. I wasn't going to take an risks.

I ended up seeing a cheap flop and flopped a set against 2 other opponents. I played my hand like it was weak, and trapped both opponents. My hand stood, and I was now the table chipleader. In fact I was in the top 5 players in the tourney.

I started making moves and pushing players around. Before I knew it I had a $20k lead over 2nd with ~20 players left. I positioned to win the tourney. The second place stack was to my right. I ended up making the following marginal play and losing half my stack.

I had ~55k in chips and was the bb, blinds + antes =4k. Everyone folds around to button who is ~10k he raises for 4k, SB raises to 8k. I have 55 and come over the top for 25k Button calls SB pushes. ~70k in the pot. button shows A2o, SB shows AKo. flop is 939, turn 7, river K.

SB ends up in excellent position, I think he may have gone on to win it. He was a solid player.

I am left with ~25k and end up playing to finish 12th place and take down $209.99 for my effort. Overall If I had it to do again I wouldn't have got into a confrontation with the second place guy. Live and learn though. I think my MTT play has made significant improvement in the last week and plan to continue to refine my skills.

My bankroll now sits at $313, and I still am expecting my rakeback by this weekend. For now I am going to limit my MTT buyins to $20 or less and play a solid game. I may be moving to the $.5/$1 limit games this week.

I have started into HOH1 and am about 30% through that. I have also been absorbing as much MTT strategy resources as I can find online.

Week 1 goal review

The goals I had set out for week 1 are:

Week of Jan 1 - Jan 7
Keep my head above water and not have to redeposit.

Well I have successfully kept my head above water. Although I have made some poor decisions along they way. I have played in several MTT's that my bankroll cannot really sustain. With the exception of winning a couple sattelite tokens, I havent cashed in any of them and they have proven to be -EV for me right now.

I will probably still play a couple of more in the following week. I need to improve my Tournament skills if I want to do well in the Bluff Poker Tour. Hopefully reading HOH again will help me have some improvement.

The best part though is that I met the main principle of this goal.

Complete 900 of 3500 hands at $0.25/$.5

I actually just finished my 900 hands today. Just a partial day shrot of my target. I am happy with my results of the first 900 hands for the year. I ended 901 hands up +143.8 bb. Woooohaaa.

here is the graph

Finish ITM in pokerfox weekly tournament

This was a complete failure. I probably wont be playing this weeks private tournament because it is PLO/8b. I like Omaha but my bankroll just cant carry a buyin this week. I wont be playing any MTT's this week unless they are freerolls.

I think I have a recapp of tourney below. If not just trust me when I say it was a disaster.

Have a bankroll of $75

I didnt make this goal either. As it stands now my bankroll is a meager $53.05. However if I hadnt played the numerous MTT's I p[layed in my bankroll would be at >$100 easily.

I am only slightly dissapointed in missing this goal for several reasons. One being that I met it but squandered the proceeds on the MTT's. Ithink that even though I didnt cash in the MTT's it was a good learning experience. It helped me to recall some of the strategy and dynamics required to do well in tournaments.

I also am expecting a decent amount of rakeback in the next week. I estimate that it will be about $100. I am also close to clearing another $20 of deposit bonus.

Begin rereading HOH 1

I havent had a chance to get into this yet. Unless begin implies that I just need to pick it up and fan throug ha couple sections. I will have to crank it down in the next week to meet my schedule.

Read Jennifer Harman's Section on Limit Hold’em in SSII.

I ahve read all but 10 pages of this and found some usefull information. Most of it is just rehashing what I have read before. I have foudn myself playing a little tighter and positional after reading it. I was already aggressive, so thats nothing new. I have also been working on my reads based on my opponents previous play.

I think this has helped improve my gaem a little bit. If you look at my stats you will notice a pretty significant increase in the trend.

Well overall I am fairly pleased with my results. Weel 2 here I come...

I cant win a race...

When it comes to tournaments and trying to get my chips in with the best cards preflop. I just cant win. Ridicuouls suckouts. I had KK agaisnt short stack who had 55, he caught a 4 flush on the river.

Anyway today I played a couple different MTT's. 3 6+.6 satellites. I landed satellite entry in one of those. I also played a24+2 with that entry. what do I have to show??? a big fat donut.....

So I've also been playing my normal game... but throwing my bankroll away on these MTT's is proven to be -EV. Although I am getting close, close doesnt replinish my bankroll. I also dumped $15 in $0.05/$0.1 NL. I decided I had better stop that for the time being

I have had a fairly profitable session at the limit. I havent checked my PT yet but I will later on. I just wanted to vent after my MTT losses. I am not going to give up, and plan to continue to try the 6+.6 sats to work my way into a win for some decent coin.

What should I do now....

Well tonight proved interesting... I started out playing my normal $0.25/$0.5 limit game. I had a hard time finding a table that would stay live very long. I tried to sit at tables that had the highest VP$P and Avg. Pot. Usually <40vp$p href="http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c353/_no1uno_/jan610nl.jpg">

It was a pretty good session and now it has me thinking about playin more no limit... I am not sure I should but am going to think about it.

anyway my no limit wins got me back up from my MTT losses. I am a couple 100 hands short of my target, and a little shy of my bankroll target. I probably wont be able to play much tommorrow either. I am not real concerned with my bankroll shortcomings because of my pending rakeback. I shoud be able to make up my hand shortage in the next week without any major issues.

I have read a majority of the Harman section in SSII and will be reviewing HOH tommorrow.

Here is a graph showing my current limit progress. I am fairly plaesed with the results. I think I have been doing a pretty good job. I just need to stay focused and work through the limits.

so i am at 600 ahnds and +50bb

quick post before I get ready for bed....

I played 2 freerolls tonight. I definetly need some refreshers on my tourney strategy. I didnt do too well. One was a 500 player point free roll, and the other was a jersey days freeroll. They started at same time. I didnt play any hands first 9 hands then I was dealt AA on JDFR. UTG+1 raises 2x bb i am UTG+4 and reraise 6xbb next player to act calls. I push after flop one player flop is something like 66J, first player to act pushes all in I have him covered by 30 and push, next player calls. I had him covered by 30 too. UTG+1 shows QQ, other player shows 69o turn is a Q, river is a 9.... I scrounged around with my 30 chips getting them up to 500 but couldnt really get anyhting going. I dont even remeber what happened in other tourney at that point.

I decided to go back to my $.25/$.5 limit game. I ended up playing just about 30 mins and decided I shoudl stop and take on some reading. I am going to read through the SSII limit holdem section when I finish this post.

I am up 47bb since Dec 31. I have 400 hands in and am still trying to hit my target for the week of 900.

I am turning 30 in months, I think I am going to go to the casino and play some holdem as a present to myself. I am going to try to plan that out soon.

Thats about all I have for now without running deep and keeping myself up writing when I should be reading that section.

Pokerfox weekly tournament results

well I didn’t fair well in the members tourney last night. We had 21 entrants and I finished 11. right at middle position.

I only saw one pocket pair entire game and that was pocket fives UTG+2 and UTG+1 raised 3 bb. I was short stacked and would have had to commit 30% of my stack to a call. UTG+1 had me covered 6x, so I elected to fold.

A lot of my problems started early because I had 2 LAG players acting immediately behind me. I could not steal blinds, or limp into pots. I tried to make some plays early but the LAG 2 seats to my left came over top on me on 2 occasions and I had to lay my hand down.

I was actually short stacked early because of those 2 plays and managed to limp through the field. When the blinds were 60/120 I was UTG+2 and dealt 10Jo, I had a stack of 460 and elected to push. I was re-raised by player immediately to my left and he showed A9o. flop came Axx, turn was 9. Three spades on board I had Js and villain had none. River was a blank and I was out. gg scary....

No regrets though. I like playing these tourneys, there's always a lot of smack talking going on. and last night was no different. I am definitely going to get into my HOH books again though b/c playing limit cash games has caused me to forget alot of the strategy I used in the past to beat the SNG's and MTT"s. I might try to get in a little MTT action so that I can be fresh for the BPT. Stars runs $1 5 table Sng's and even though they are don fests I can usually beat them. I may throw $50 on there just to give those a run. I think they pay out $15 for first and if I can beat a few I might buy into a $10 MTT. The thing that kills me at Stars though is how large the field’s are. Its like wading through a mine field. On second thought I might try the 180 man $20 sng's if I can win a couple $1's....

I played a couple of hands of limit last night, but only ~30 and showed very small profit.

I am not sure if I will be playing any tonight or not. Will have to see how the evening unfolds.

I signed u for the ESPN Fantasy Poker competition that is starting up this week. This used to be hosted by Bluff magazine, and ESPN attracts more players but offers less prizes. We’ll see how it unravels. There are a lot of disgruntled players at bluff, who don’t like the changes. Nobody ever likes change though. I haven’t formed an opinion yet whether I like it or not. It will really depend on how I do :-p

So the first event is starting this weekend. It's the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure. I picked the following players as my crew. I order of rankings : Allen Cunningham, John Juanda, Kathy Liebert, Greg Raymer, David Williams, Daniel Negraneau, and Eveyln Ng.

You are limited to seven players, and a "salary cap" based on the players values. I tried to diversify my crew with players whom I thought might be playing and would probably make a good standing. I'll post my results next Monday....

2 days down 363 to go.....

I thought I had made note of it but apparently not. I am going to play a minimum of 3500 hands at each limit prior to stepping up in to a higher limit. I am going to require myself to achieve a reasonable win rate also before moving up. I have decided what my target is going to be yet but I think somewhere between 2-4bb/100, and it will probably depend on the limit. Obviously the higher I move up the hard a 4bb/100 win rate will be able to achieve or maintain, but when moving over to 6max games it might be easier. I will conquer that hurdle when I get there. For now I am at .25/5 and am expecting to achieve a 4bb/100 win rate rather easily.

Ok in sticking to my guns i only played .25/.5 limit. These games can be outright crazy, but it’s what I first started playing well when i was playing limit. Although those games were on stars vs. fulltilt. I'd have to say that i think the stars players were a little better. But what does that matter, as long as I can beat them.

My early fire was put out and I returned to a reasonable win rate so far. I am up 9.5bb and have played 164/3500 hands. I figure it is going to take me about 3 weeks to get in 3500 hands. So it should be a humbling experience. At least I am well bankrolled for this limit. Even though my account is near empty I can drop $200 tomorrow if need be. But I am going to try to make it on what I have. My rake back should be clearing within the next week or so and it will take me a few days to get it withdrawn and transferred over.

Tonight I am playing the pokerfox weekly tournament. Since there have been server issues the admins are making it a $500 guarantee. Usually we have 10-20 players, but I’ve noticed a lot of players who have never played chiming in on the board that they are going to play tonight.... gg overlay

The tournament is $10+1 and since it is equivalent to 40% of my bankroll right now I am going to play that sucker tighter than a nuns ass to make the $. I need the boost, and judging how I have finished the last 2 I have played in I can stand to play tighter.

I found out that there is going to be a home game that I play coming up January 14 or 15th. Looking foward to that. I haven’t cashed in that particular home game at yet. Which has been disappointing considering the competition is generally softer, and I won harder games. I'll touch on that a little later.

I plan on doing weekly and monthly recaps to make sure I am meeting my goals.

My goals for the upcoming weeks are:
Week of Jan 1 - Jan 7
Keep my head above water and not have to redeposit.
Complete 900 of 3500 hands at $0.25/$.5
Finish ITM in pokerfox weekly tournament
Have a bankroll of $75
Begin rereading HOH 1
Read Jennifer Harman's Section on Limit Hold’em in SSII.

Week of Jan 8 - Jan 14
Complete 1800 of 3500 hands at $0.25/$0.5
Have a bankroll of $150
Finish rereading HOH 1

Week of Jan 15 - Jan 21
Complete 2700 of 3500 hands at $0.25/$0.5
Have a bankroll of $225
Begin rereading HOH 2

Week of Jan 22 - Jan 28

Complete 3500 of 3500 hands at $0.25/$0.5
Have a bankroll of $300
Begin playing $.50/$1
Finish rereading HOH 2 prior to the start of BPT game #1

My overall goal for January is:
Finish my 3500 hands at $0.25/$.50 with a win rate of >5bb/100.
Boost my bankroll to at least $300
Begin playing the BPT, and move into $0.50/$1 games

I am going to start posting my stats on here using pokergrapher. For now I am only going to post my $.25/$.5 stats. Since I can hit the reset button on New Years I elected to do so. I am putting all loses behind me and moving forward. I am officially a break even player as of this past Sunday.

Happy fucking New Year...

I am an idiot.... i couldn’t stand playing .5/1 so thought I’d be smooth and play 1/2... Well that’s all fine and dandy except I am not bankrolled for the variance, and lost my ass once again. I managed to scrap back up to ~$100 and thought I would play some razz for something different. I like razz but there was limited games available, it was either .25/.5 or 2/4 ... guess what the idiot did.... i lost $70 which isn’t much if i am have the bankroll to keep playing. But I had to stop. i left myself with $20...

WTF am I thinking sometimes? I must have attention deficit disorder b/c i do this shit all the time, even though I tell myself it’s the last time.

i wish poker sites would allow you to block out games outside your bankroll guidelines. It would help me tremendously.

Anyway now I am playing .25/.5 and it fucking sucks! No rake = no bonuses cleared and no rake back. These games don’t get raked unless the pot is $5. And that happens ~1/8 hands.....

Well this is going to be one hell of a bankroll building exercise for me.

I plan on playing the weekly pokerfox members tourney tomorrow. There is going to be some sort of overlay. There have been issues with the site lately so the admin’s are making it a $500 guarantee. We have had 10-20 people in the past. There might be a bigger turnout this week b/c of the potential overlay. But I still anticipate a $5-$10 overlay.

Hopefully this week I won’t be going out first. i got sucked out on last week when my JJ vs. AQo all-in preflop ran into a Q on river....

One good thing about these .25/.5 games is the players suck! I am up to $40 in 20 hands. I am going to make myself play at least 5k hands at this level regardless of my bankroll. That should give me time to get my head straight.

I won’t be playing any poker tonight; I am going to spend some time with the wife and try to get some rest. i will be going back to work tomorrow.

Yesterday I helped a friend move in to a new place, a second floor apartment, and wore myself out. Then I played online until ~3 am, and got up at 8 this morning. I am exhausted today....

One final word.... FUCK THE DONKEYS!
