HEE HAW SEE SAW

Thats my theme for tonights session. I made some bad bluffs. Fundemtally bad, bluffing a calling station is never good. Un fortunately early in my session I managed to do this twice.

I made some good plays, trapping my opponents until they were completely committed. Stacking them off.

I made some bad plays tonight, putting in my $ when I knew I was behind, pegging my opponent for AA/KK.

I made some good plays tonight, putting in my $ when I was ahead and knew my opponent was on AK, and watched him catch a K on the river. I had an opponent catch a 3 outer more than 4 times tonight.

So thats the short summary of tonights session. below is the graphic representation.

good luck at the tables!

Wednesday, June 28, 2006

well i was able to unstick myself

I played a shorter session tonight ~200 hands and was able to get a little momentum going. I ended up recouping my losses and picking up ~60 ptbb.

I think last night I made the mistake with my table selection. IT was a very lag table, and by not catching cards I couldnt keep up. I hit about 6 pp's in 200 hands and AK once. I got AA once too. I ran my pp's into bigger pp's twice. Overall it was rough.

here is my graph from the last 2 days, looking back it looks like i played (or at least tracked) exactly 175 hands each day.

I'm probably going to call it anight. I am trying to catch up on my sleep.

good luck!

uggh

got stuck in my session tonight... will probably step down tommorrow. i'm not at my stop loss level but only 1 buyin off.

i did make it to the dr today though. Only had a sever muscle spasm, not back related :-) dr gave me some steroids and flexoril. I had some other related problems b/c of that injury though. but should be better in a week or so.

Went out to dinner with my wife and had a couple of margaritas along with my flexoril. probably had a negative result on my session afterwards. o well live and learn.

my buddy went out early in the wsop event. He said the structure was tough. and if you didnt hit your hand you were done. I was following on pokerwire and that definetly seemed true. I didnt talk much more to him though b/c he was in another tourney.

hopefully tommorrow will be better.

i wasnt going to post again tonight

but i had a run in with a couple donkeys... just my luck on the same table. At the time I was playing 2 tables. I couldnt believe the hands these guys pulled out of their ass. One guy admitted that he played the hand terrible, but the other most likely had no clue.

edit: so some of my comments didnt post, at this time I am to tired to jack with it again. go ahead and try to figure out what I was thinking. where there are bolded text and <<>

here is a chart of my evening session. I was able to pull out a slight profit and decided to call it. I'm going to start my system mainenance and head to bed.

made a desicion tonight

I am going to take a shot at the next level rather than build my bankroll up. My primary reasoning behind this is that I already know I can beat the level and have beaten the next level beyond that. I am just going to controll my urges to buy into $109 MTT's I should be alright.

In the event I get stacked down to 16 buyins to the level I was just playing I am going to step back down. Right now I have 10 buyins for the next level.

I did play a little tonight but realized that my laptop (my poker computer) was running slow. I decided to clean it up a little and get rid of some large files that I dont use anymore.

I also ran the utility on pokertracker to compress my db. My db is actually getting extremely large so I am seriously considering purging all of my limit holdem data.

During the first couple months of the year I almost played limit exclusivly. I havent played any limit in at least 2 months, and dont really forsee me making the switch back anytime soon. In the even that I do go back to limit, I would imagine my stats would be nearly obsoluete. Additonally I didnt play on the site I played on currently.

I am also considering dumping my stats for the other sites that I am not playing. I am not sure about this, but considering my db is >2.5gb I think I should thin it out some.

Tonight I am going to run my defragmenter too. My drive is about 30% fragmented. I am basically just trying to find ways to get my pc to run faster.

Tommorrow I am going to the dr b/c My back/shoulder is still bothering me an I ran thru my stash of muscle relaxers. Its been tough sleeping and the pain is unbearble at times. I woke up an went ot work at 4:30 this morning just because I couldnt sleep or stand it anymore. On a normal day I dont have to be at work until 9 or so.

My buddy is going out to vegas tonight and hopefully going to be able to register for the WSOP event tommorrow. Good Luck Eric! The event looks to be huge, there is some speculation that it is going to be maxed out. I'm not sure what they would cap it at but its a 3 day event. last year it drew ~2500 ppl and alan cuningham took down ~750k.

very little play this weekend

Unfortunately I had to blow off 3 private tournaments this weekend. One of which awarded a WSOP ME seat. I was busy trying to wrap up the fence project for my wife yesterday. I ended up getting everything done except installing some hardware and 5 pickets I was short. I was going to finish up today but the storms rolled in.

I ended up playing just a little bit. I think I ahd in ~100-200 hands before my wife had other ideas for me. Somehow I forgot to start my handgrabber software, but ended up ~100ptbb 50 from stacking a maniac, and another 50 from turning a set agianst top pair with nutflush draw.

My bankroll is now over 20 buyins yeah! so now I am working towards having an adequate bankroll for the next level. I plan to set some goals to get me there but havent thought about it much b/c Ihave ben preoccupied.

Friday, June 23, 2006

was going to sit down and play tonight

Then I encountered some pain related issues that are making it difficult to concentrate. I managed to log about 100 hands or so, once paying off AA vs my KK lucky for me he was on a short buyin.

so here is my chart including last nights play.

So now I think I am going to opt for a couple of beers and muscle relaxers and maybe watch some poker instead of play.

good luck at the tables!

(I started today at about the 180 mark)

Thursday, June 22, 2006

played about 200 hands tonight

Not much in the way of results though. I picked up 21bb at 12/bb 100. I also lost 50bb to a set over my flopped 2 pair vs a short stack.

I actually just forced myself to stop playing. I found myself peeking at the tournament lobby, and seriously considering registering for a $109, effectively 60% of my bankroll. I resisted but then saw a $55 WSOP package tournament. Its tough, I'd really like to get in to a tourney but UB has slim pickings right now, I think I am going to move the majority of my bankroll back to neteller so that I can take a shot at a tourney if I find a good one.

thats all for tonight, I'm still wading through my back issues and not really with it lately. I'm sure its better for me to stop playing for the time being.

An unexpected break

I havent played any since last thursday. I have been taking care of some spousal duties, i.e., building a privacy fence for my wife.

Its been a long five days, Prior to beginning my project I pinched a nerve in my shoulder/back so I have been rather gimpy. My whole left arm is numb. Its similar to the feeling you get when you it in the wrong position for a while and your leg falls a sleep. Additionally, my elbow has a sharp paing associtated with the pinched nerve, and some back/shoulder pain.

It's been rough, I have a history of back problems so I have stash of vicoden for such an occassion. Even with taken them in a prescribed manner and alternating heat and cold on my back, I have had little success in dilluting the pain.

I have probably enabled the problem to continue longer than normal b/c I have been relentless at trying to complete the fence. Its about 250 ft (fortunantely my neighbor had alreazdy instaleld one of the shared runs, eliminating about 1/3 of my task. At this point I have all the posts set, and all the lateral structural pieces installed. I am installing individual pickets and have about 2/3 complete, and have to build the gates.

I am going to continue to work on the fence until I have it done. Fortunately tommorrow's forcast calls for rain, so I am going to take the evening off. I doubt I will get in any playing time though. I think I will play withthe kids and crash out early when they are off to bed.

I hope to get back on the tables by this weekend. Honestly this is a nice break. I am not taking the break b/c I have been playing poorly(I actually feel the opposite is true and that I have been playing well). I am looking fowad to getting back int othe game and continuing my run based on the strategies I had already put in place.

playing within my bankroll has been humbling

I mean to say it really sucks ass playing to win $2 at a time every 6 or 7 hands. Because thats what these fish buyin for $2 at a time.... pretty gay. Its sure alot different than playing at the 50nl tables. Still plenty of fish, but just fractional stakes.

So I have been multitabling, and it seems to be going well. Vombined with multitabling I have been working on table selection. I had UB open up my allowed tables so I can now play 8 at a time. Although the most I have simultaneuosly sat at recently has been 5. I am also able to observe 9 tables at once. Combined with my constantly growing friends list its becoming easy to find a couple of profitable tables. I am have been sitting at 2-4 on average.

I feel that I have been playing better, and even though I am playing with a bunch of donkeys I have laid down hands because I didnt feel I had enough of an edge. I honestly feel like I have 90% of the players on during my regular play time profiled. This has been really beneficial in determining how invloved I am going to get involved in pots.

Currently I am 1/3 of the way to my bankroll requirements to move up. It's painstakingly, but I am progressing. Unfortunately my pokertracker stats are just plain fucked! I logged a positive session tonight, but my stats only show a very mariginal difference for today. Hopefully the pahud guy will get that resolved soon. I cant use the ub handgrabber program in conjunction with my pahud, so I will just have to hope it gets done quick. I dont know if its a result of multitabling and conflicts with grabbing hands, but have noticed the problem is more of an issue lately.

I'm just happy to say things are looking up. I am playing in 2 tournaments this weekend that give out a WSOP seat, I'll cross my fingers and hope the cards fall my way.

So overall thats how my day has been and worse.... I am down a couple of buyins on the session, but primarily b/c I played alittle bit before work, and found myself rushing the action. I recouped some of the losses from then, but not all of them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

played alittle more after this post.... I dont know if chasing fish is such a good idea. I found a juice ball, super calling station/chaser. That wouldnt be so bad if he didnt catch his cards EVERY TIME! it was crazy how lucky and ignorant he was. IT was rather funny though. 2 guys at the table started to berae him on his play (which I tried to intervene b/c I didnt want him to leave) but he stated that he lost 2k in the last 2 months! Its no surprise to me b/c he was terrible, his play was unreal. I added him to my buddy list and hope to catch the other side of the deck the next time we play.

In one hand I flopped top 2 pair A&Q's and he chased the flush, he didnt catch the flush but hit a back door straight with something like J4s. What makes it so bad is that we had a 2 players who posted out of posisiton so I raised it up pf 6.5xbb and he called, called, caught... o well maybe next time.

trying some new things

I decided to work on a couple of things. First off, I havent datamined the games and its easy to do. I set that up yesterday. Since I didnt have many stats on players at my current level I let 9 tables run while I was out with the family. I am not sure it worked real well though. Before we left I noticed my wife had shut my laptop and put my computer on standby. I opened it up and tried to get it running before we left, but I think some of the tables were hung up.

I noticed that I seem to have a problem with pahud when I have 9 tables open on UB. I dont get my stats diplayed, but it pulls hh's. I checked the pahud forums and didnt see the issue listed, so I am trying to pinpoint what triggers it b4 I post a message for josh. I did notice that there were some posts regarding missing UB handhistories all together, and he seems to be working on that issue.

Missing hand histories has a significant impact on my stats I have noticed. I usually notice hwen the stats are off if I am only playing one or 2 tables, and the win/loss is significant. Sometimes I am able to recover the missing hand history, but not always.

This becomes more of an issue when I am multitabling. Since I am playing abc poker at the micro limits, I have decided to take a shot at multi tabling the 6 max nl games. In the past I have 5 tabled the full ring games with success, but never had much luck at the 6 max. I snet UB an email asking them to allow me to play 8 tables, so hopefully they'll cooperate. Right now I am able to play 5.

Tonight I fired up 4 tables, and bought in for 1/2 max. I noticed on one table I had a maniac who was at 65/65/9 over 200 hands. Cha-ching! I maxed out on that table and only had one chance to double thru him during his 12 buyin donation. I picked up a new friend though, and hopefully will run into him later.

So multitabling was the second thing I decided to try tonight.

I also decided to work on taking notes on players, and adding the juicy ones to my friends list. I only picked up about 1 dozen solid notes on players, and added about 8 to my friends. I think in the long run this will improve my table selection, and my win rate.

I also updated my pahud display a little tonight. I already had it pretty pimped for 6 max, but with multitabling I decided to add player icon/descriptions and fold sb/bb. These were really just for good measure. It nice being able to see if I have any fish on the table at a glance, and be aware of the general style of the players.

I dont have any really gains to report tonight though. Unfortunately my run in with the aggro player heads up took me down a little bit, and I had to rebound. I did log some minor gains nad am back above were I was prior to my losses the other night. So all is good in my book. I picked up some rakeback, and cleared some bonuses to log some minor bankroll boost too.

Tonight I only got in ~500 hands, but it was a short hour session. My overall goal was to see how I could hang with 6 max multitabling. I am going to review my hand histories and see how many oppurtunites I might have missed, but genereally think it can be mark as a success.

I plan on following up on my multitable trials tommorrow.

Thanks for stopping by, and seeing how this donk rolls!

did i miss the memo?

You know the one that says limp or min raise with AA/AK.

I started me session off by running into 2 players who did this and stuck me :-( I dont really mind so much, b/c on many occassions I have been in the bb and flopped 2 pair or a nut straight and busted these fools. I never limp with AA unless I know for a fact my opponent will get aggro on me. I dont have enough of a history with these players for them to know I would pay them off, but I did.

Not necessarily the best plays on my part either. I guess I was just a little too confident that my opponent would lay down a weaker hand.

No worries though I was able to grind back to the black after another 300 hands :-p

Last night I played a little more, and ended up getting into a high variance situation with a super aggro player when our table broke and we were heads up. It cost me a little bit, but had hiden EV. It made me realize the importance of table selection in cash games. There is no reason why I should be sitting at a table that has a marginal EV for me when there are plenty of other games available where I have an edge.

I decided to run some poker tracker quiries and add some friends to my ultimate buddy. ultimate buddy is great, you can add notes to the players and with a couple of clicks be sitting with them when ever they are online.

I only added players who I had over 100 hands on, and that I have played with in the last 45 days. Unfortunately, I was playing $25-50NL in the last 45 days, and am now grinding out the $10NL tables. I have picked up a couple of new friends and hopefully will find more in the future. I dont necessarily mind the high variance of playing with aggressive players, but right now I am better bankrolled for a steady grind, rather than headsup with players who are a little more skilled than the avg. player.

Another feature of UB is being able to see when my "friends" are online. Even if I am not playing I can open up and get some more stats on them (and the other ppl in their game), so that when I am playing I have a little more info on their game. I dont rely exclusively on stats, but they can be helpful. I usually keep my own notes in addition to the stats, but every little edge helps.

I probably wont play much more today. Taking the family to a movie, and when Ireturn I have some yard work to complete. I am just happy to be able to say that I am runnign better. I also am releaved to beable to see that even some online pros run bad.

Here are a couple of blogs from the guys at cardrunners who talk about thier recent bad runs.

muddywaters blog
green plastics blog

Obviously I dont gain any enjoyment out of seeing other players that I respect run bad, but it is reassuring to know that even the best players have tough times. Hopefully I can keep on top of my leaks, and keep the variance down for a while.

anyways, good luck!

quick update

I havent been posting much lately, basically b/c I dont want to lament my recent shortcomings.

Anyway, last night I ran all the funds out of my UB acct except to $2.29 not even enough to sit at a 10nl table. Part of the reason I was down so low was b/c I bought into 4 stt's and blanked in all of them.I stopped playing and watched some cash game videos. I helped me realize some of things I hadnt been doing lately, namely how to get paid off on my big hands.

After watching a couple videos, I checked out the tables. I saw someone sitting at a 1cent/2 cent table alone and sat down with my $2. We played heads up and I was able to squeeze him for ~$5 before the table filled up. Once the table was 7 handed I bounced.

I ended up going to bed shortly after that.

Today I decided I would take a new shot at the micro 10nl table. I decided to buyin for $2.5 at a table, and watch the game and play tight. I actually had a lot of time today, b/c my wife was off at a class today. I played some great poker today.

I managed to grind my$2 into $54.25 over 600 hands (plus the hands I didnt track ~50 or so). I beat the game for 32.5bb/100 and feel extremely confident in my game again.

I generally played solid poker. Laying down hands when I didnt feel like I had enough of an edge, and got paid on my hands when I had them. I controlled the pots I was in, and eveything just fell into place.

I am going to watch a couple more vids tonight, and hopefully continue to build. I am still waiting on $100 in rakeback that should be paid out in the next 3 days or so. I had previously included those in my bankroll #'s, so I havent lost everything. I am down over the week, but am definetly on the rebound.

I am going to stick to the 10nl tables for a minute, until I have the proper bankroll to move up. I am shooting for $500 to play 25nl, so I have a little bit to go.

who woulda guessed that I can still win every once in a while

Well nothing major tonight. I ended up getting back late from picking my daughter and MIL up at the airport and by the time I got into the lavalife freeroll I was well below avg stack. I bet at a flush draw when the blinds were 50/100 and missed and let my hand go. Then a few hands later I felt froggy and made a bad pf raise and was called. I was extremely shrot stacked and pushed with a gut shot straight draw against an opponent who had the nut flush draw. I lost and went out ~180

I decided to play a little $25NL 6max. I got unlucky and ran JJ into AA, but the board slowed us both down. I lost ~1/2 buyin. I was able to pick off a short stack with top pair and was back close to even. I then hit a set against top 2 pair in a 3 way pot. one player laid down his hand, but the short stack stayed in. The other player said he held top 2 pair also.

Anyway I finished my short session up ~$30 over ~100 hands. Nothing spectacular, but better than a loss for the evening. Still riding a weak bankroll.

I found some new blogs today, and am going to update my blogroll. There are a couple of blogs that I already read regularly too that I am going to add.

more blanks

played in 2 $5 stt's and a $5 MTT. nothing but blanks. The MTT had just over 900 entrants and I finished 320, no better than 900th...

I didnt really focus when playing though, had the tv going and got wrapped up watching inked and mindfreak. I swear chris angel is some type of sorcerer. There is no explanation for some of the shit he pulls off.

Anyway back to my session.... I did sit down and hit the cash games a little bit, really just a little bit b/c I want to watch some of the live at the bike before i go to bed. I ended up recouping a little bit of my buyins and only ended up down ~$4 for the night. I played at the $25 NL tables b/c I once again realized how bad the play is below that and how pointless it is. I just focused and played good poker for the couple of hand s i played (about 50-60).

Tommorrow I have the lavalife freeroll so that will be all the poker I get in. hopefully I take it down. I think I am due to get hit by the deck any day now :-p

and tonight...

I played 2 more $5 stt's, a $5 mtt, and a $5 and $3 sat that I bought into with UBpoints.

I blanked in all except 1 stt, which I took 2nd in. I honestly should have taken first. When we were heads up I tapped my opponent twice, and got him to commit all of his chips, but he managed to suck out once and dbl up, and the other time the board brought a split pot when I had him dominated.

I also lost $8 playing $10nl... booo!

I felt that he UB STT's had better quality of play than the stars STT's. This might make them tougher to bet, but less frustrating overall.

My bankrol is in generally bad shape at $154, but I am feeling better about playing STT's and hopefully that will help my bankroll improve.

I have the lavalife freeroll on thursday night. Maybe I'll end up taking down the vacation :-D honestly I would rather take down second for a 50" plasma, but the vacation would probably serve me better right now. Although my wife is in her 8th month of pregnancy and I wouldnt be taking a vacation anytime soon.

i dont think i can play $5 stt

so i threw my cash pokerstars

I put my $100 cash onto poker stars, actually only $90 b/c I paid some western union fees.

My thoughts were to play STT's. I just dont think I'm cut out for STT's honestly. My schedule just doesnt really allow them. its tough for me to set aside an hour of uninterrupted time.

I played 3 STT's. A $5.5, a $6.5 turbo, and another $5.5. I blanked in the first 2, and only picked up 3rd in the 3rd one. For a net loss of -$8.5. I transfered $72.5 back over to UB, and have $9 on stars. I might take a crack at one more of the $5.5's or just leave that $ there undisturbed.

I put in about 80 hands on ub during my last STT in a $10NL 6 max table. My cards ran completely cold. I picked up 2 pocket pair. 5's and 8's. I picked up a small pot with my 5's and had to let the 8's go when reraised on a broadway flop. My total for the cash session was a net loss of $0.81.

So I finished my session down $9.31. I can live with it and will be back to fight another day. Thanks to the guys who have given me words of encouragement on my blog and other place, I appreciate it. I know I can snap out of this streak and will take nothing less.

a couple of personal observations

1. I need to stop playing outside of my bankroll. A couple of bad beats and I am down 50%. I dont let it afffect my game, but maybe I should. If I am playing bad I just continue to play bad.

2. I need to set stop losses. Even if its only to take a 30 minute break. I ran through several buyins back to back b/c I was tilting. Very adverse effect when playing over my bankroll, and still not pleasant when I am within my bankroll.

3. I am not cut out to 4 table 6 max NL games, at least at the micro limits. I took a shot at the $10 NL tables, and ran through 3 buyins. I crushed 2 tables, but still finished down.

4. In tournaments I have to focus more. I was playing a $30 MTT last nght (bought in with UB points) and was killing it during the second hour. I got into a confrontation with a player who had obviously been making moves on ppl, but accumulated a big stack. I missed my hand and he moved on me on the river. I folded which was the right move 98% of the time. He proceeded to show me a huge bluff, and sent me into tilt. The next hand I paid off a set, and 2 hands later I was gone.

I'm sure there are other things about my game that I need to pick up on, and correct, but lately the above issues have djust killed me.

I am going to tucdk tail and drop down to the micro tables again :-/ I am going to follow a 5%/10% bankroll management rule for my cash games with a 15% session stop loss, at this point I am going to take at least a 30 min break. I am also going to follow a STT/MTT rule of 3%/1.5%. I dont play many STT's 'but might start playing more in the future.

So far june has been horrible to me. I hope to turn it around. My bankroll isnt completely trashed, but it has been humbling. I know I can beat the $50NL games, now I need to make sure I am properly funded to play those games.

My goal for June is to build my bankroll up to 1k, by following the above bankroll guidelines. I am certain I can do it, now I just need to get to work. I am going to set a goal of 6k hands for the month. I know its not a lot for some ppl, but its a ton for my schedule. 6k will require me to put in 1500 per week, and if I am lucky my longest sessions currently run 300 hands.

So where am I at now?

without my up coming rakeback my bankroll is 103.79. S othat means that I am playing the $10NL tables with a half buyin :-/ thats just shitty, but its necessary.

Anyway I hope some of you are having a good run, I'll be living vicaiously thourhg your blogs for a while.

good luck!

a little addendum to my earlier post.
I played 2 100pt tournaments (basically 100 pts has the value of $0.40, yeah pathetic) anyway I took first in both for 500 pts each or a profit of 800pts($3.2). The value doesnt mean squat, but I think I played very well and the value of a confidence boost is long term +EV.

In the first one I was out chipped 2:1 HU, and took it down smooth. The second one I had a 12.5k to 2.5k so their wasnt much chance for my opponent. He did last a while though.

BUSTO

not really but damn close.

I only have ~27 in my online accts. I have $100 of my bankroll in cash, and $92 in pending rakeback.

I'm not sure what approach I am going to take, but I knwo I am stepping down to the super micro limits until I can pull my head out of my ass.

I dont think I can hang at the cash nickel tables so I'll probably stick to STT's a while.

today

only playing hu stt today, I made ~80, all of them were $5, except for a group of $10.5's that I broke even on minus rake.

The bankroll is bleak. Its at $235, plus $95 in rakeback coming.

I played some UBpoint ring games an STT's. Playing triple draw, and NLHE. I turned 500 pts into 2805. If I accumulate enough I can buy into some $20 MTT's with the points. 2750 is equal to $11 buy in.

i guess noone liked my retarded attempt at hiaku. Hell I dont really know the true definition of hiaku but was just steaming.

hope everyones luck is running better than mine. I played one guy yesterday who was getting hit hard by the deck, at my expense...

gl!

I've just made a desicion

I'm not going to play any cash games until I get my rakeback payment in later in the month. I think I need to switch up my games, I ran like hell tonight and need the break.

I will probably play some $11 STT's and the freeroll MTT's I am already registered for.
